December 2016 Board Meeting Minutes

Minutes from the December 14 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Greenwich Free Library

Present: Jim Nolan, Walter Grom, Teri Pendergrass, Pat Isgro, Cliff Mealy, Jenny Lyttle (Friends) Annie Miller(Director)

Correction to Nov Minutes: Teri is on Small Libraries Create Smart Spaces committee, not the Plan of Service Committee

Financial: Current annual appeal donations are on par or a little ahead of last year. Think about creating an online donation option. We are looking to have an accountant with Quickbooks and nonprofit experience help us set up our books for 2017. Jim will ask Mary.

Furniture Committee: Chairs estimated to cost $300 each. Is this a State Contract number? Teri will ask Rulyn. Can we include furniture in any grant? Possibly 2017-18 construction. Annie will find out earliest we can spend $$. Jim suggested we get a quote from another vendor.

Building: Contract signed with Alexander for rear entrance work. First payment made, putting us within the grant’s deadline to begin. Gas line installed.

Strategic Plan: We looked at Mission/Vision/Values statements. Getting a solid draft of this will be the focus of our January retreat. Please read carefully and come ready to contribute thoughts.

January board retreat: Scheduled for Sunday, January 29th from 12-3. We will start with lunch. Main topic will be Strategic Plan.

Friends of the Library report: Average monthly book sale earnings for the year $200 – goes directly into library operating account. Whipple City 2016 sale $600 goes to Friends treasury.

2017 budget presented and accepted.

Volunteer appreciation party scheduled for Friday, February 11 4-7pm at the library. Teri and Naomi will create little candy gifts with save the date cards.

Jim will be hosting an Epiphany party for the board. Friday, Jan 6 @ 6pm at Nolan’s pub.

Respectfully submitted – Annie Miller
